Family Photo Shoot on Mount Etna: The Story of James, Joelle, and Winston
Family Photo Shoot at the Historic Hill of Paternò
A family story among the hills of Motta Sant'Anastasia and the Volcano
There is something deeply moving about documenting the lives of families who, though coming from afar, choose Sicily as their home. James and Joelle are a young American couple living in Motta Sant'Anastasia, and for their photo shoot they wanted something simple yet iconic: the green of a meadow and the majesty of Mount Etna in the background.

As a photographer in Giarre and Catania, I know well that our territory offers views that look like paintings, perfect for framing moments of authentic family happiness. James and Joelle's request was not only aesthetic, but tied to a deep sense of belonging to this land that has welcomed them.
Little Winston: an American "Sicilian" The real star of the day was little Winston. Born right here in Sicily, Winston is his parents' joy and the living symbol of the family's bond with the island. Documenting his first steps and his smiles in such a natural setting was an experience of pure carefreeness.
In family photography, the lens must capture not only faces, but emotional dynamics. During the afternoon spent together, I tried to be an unobtrusive presence, allowing James, Joelle, and Winston to interact spontaneously. The games on the grass, the hugs, and the runs toward the horizon dominated by the volcano became shots that tell the beauty of everyday life.
Photographic technique: natural light and wide spaces For this shoot I chose to work exclusively with the natural light of late afternoon, the so-called "golden hour." In Sicily, this light has a warm, enveloping tone that enhances the texture of the grass and the colors of the clothes, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere.
The use of prime lenses allowed me to achieve a delicate blur (bokeh), while keeping Mount Etna clearly visible as a silent and majestic witness to the scene. When photographing a family with a young child, speed is essential: you need to anticipate movement and capture the fleeting moment, that spontaneous laugh or that knowing glance between parents.
Why choose an outdoor photo shoot in Sicily More and more families living in Motta Sant'Anastasia, Sigonella, and Catania are choosing to invest in a professional outdoor photo shoot. Unlike a closed studio, the natural environment allows children to feel free and parents to relax, eliminating the stiffness typical of forced poses.
The result is a family reportage that never ages, a tangible memory of a happy period lived under the Sicilian sky. For me, telling these stories is a confirmation of how much photography can unite different cultures under the universal sign of family love.
